Delivering Innovation
A five-step process to innovation at NGN
Innovation thrives at NGN thanks to our forward-thinking people and culture, married with rigorous planning and processes. We’ve worked hard behind the scenes to ensure we can deliver genuinely effective innovation projects across the entire business through a robust five-step process.
It provides all the necessary touch points for financial approvals and alignment on business priorities, formalises roles and responsibilities, ensures we engage with stakeholders and ultimately leads to quicker decisions on innovation projects. We also work with the other gas and electricity networks which ensures strong collaboration and avoids unnecessary duplication.
There are also key roles that support the end-to-end process and correct governance. They are:
- Originator – internal or external
- Portfolio Management – Innovation Portfolio and Governance Manager
- Project Management – assigned Project Manager
- Clearance To Proceed – Head of Innovation Strategy and Innovation Manager
- Implementation to the Business – Elected Operations Implementation Manager
Innovation activities are split into Strategic, Tactical and Regulatory to ensure compliant management of the industry-led innovation process. Our innovation framework operates in line with Ofgem governance, upholding the strategic, tactical and regulatory requirements we have as a team.
