Reducing gas leakage everyday
Gas leakage contributes >90% of NGN’s greenhouse gas emissions. We are reducing our gas leakage everyday by replacing aged, leak prone metallic gas pipes with new, robust plastic pipes. In 2024/25 we replaced 565km of pipe.
Our annual gas leakage has reduced by 7% between 2023/24 and 2024/25 saving 21,000 tCO2e. 21,000 tCO2e is the same as the emissions from gas usage in 8,200 typical UK homes.
We are on track to achieve our target of reducing our gas leakage by 24% between 2021 and 2026.
