Waste, resources and sustainable procurement

Reducing waste and recycling more

NGN waste recycled, reused or recovered on in 2023/24.

Excavation waste contributes over 99% of NGN’s waste. In 2023/24 we sent 0.00% of our excavation waste to landfill and are on track to achieve our target of less than 0.1% by 2026.

In addition, during 2023/24 we achieved 0.25% office and depot waste to landfill, down approximately 80% compared to 2022/23.

We continually work with our contractors and supply chain partners to minimise our waste disposal to landfill and use of primary aggregates in reinstatement

Purchasing sustainably

In April 2022 we launched a new Supplier Code of Conduct to embed sustainability in our supply chain.

Our code is aligned to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. We have set a target to achieve 80% of our supply chain by value compliant with our code by March 2026. By the end of 2023/24 we had already achieved 82%.
