Reducing gas leakage everyday
Gas leakage contributes >90% of NGN’s greenhouse gas emissions. We are reducing our gas leakage everyday by replacing aged, leak prone metallic gas pipes with new, robust plastic pipes. In 2022/23 we replaced nearly 550km of pipe.
Our annual gas leakage has reduced by 35% over 2013 to 2023 saving 950,000 tCO2e, and 10% between 2021/22 and 2022/23 saving 35,000 tCO2e. 35,000tCO2e is the same as the emissions from gas usage in 13,500 typical UK homes
We are on track to achieve our target of reducing our gas leakage by 24% between 2021 and 2026.
