A word from our team

Thank you again to those of you who joined us for our quarterly Hot Topic Workshop – Support through the energy transition, which was held on Tuesday 11th March.

NGN’s Social Strategy Team and Eileen thoroughly enjoyed seeing you all again. A special thank-you to our guest presenter Ella Pinder, Vulnerability Policy Manager from Northern Powergrid. Ella provided an overview of the Energy Choices Tool.

  • The Energy Choices Tool is an online tool allowing customers to enter information about their home, finances and lifestyle and then receive tailored advice about measures they can take, to improve the energy efficiency of their home and install Low Carbon Technologies (LCT)
  • Northern Powergrid have worked with NGED on developing this tool and are putting the final touches to the tool now
  • It is currently in testing with expert stakeholders and a small group of customers
  • The aim is to launch the tool across the region before the end of 2025, allowing the millions of customers who live in our region to access support and advice

You said, we did recap

Looking back on the feedback we received from our stakeholders during our last Hot Topic Workshop in December 2024, the points below highlight what was captured on the day and what NGN have done to address these.

You Said...
We did...
Earlier interventions (if/where possible) and even broader eligibility criteria may help further
Recently approved projects that address early intervention rather than crisis management. These projects address the gaps we have identified
Partners to attend each other’s team meetings to communicate key messages and other useful information. This is a good starting point
Centre for warmth partners were encouraged to attend a 'peer support network' meeting to share best practice and to bring in other funded partners
Submitting joint projects with good, established strategic partners to gain a wider, overall benefit
Recently approved a project with one of our strategic partners, CA Northumberland and the Department of Working Pensions
Farming communities – high suicide rate – sometimes need the difficult conversations
Recently approved project with the Farming Community Network
Recently approved project with the Farming Community Network
We have a partnership in place with IE Hub which is an online tool for the customer to access direct
Summary of VCMA funded projects on an interactive map
We have engaged with Egnida to upload our VCMA projects onto the vulnerability mapping tool
